MEMORIAM
Winner of SCAD's
"Best Game Design" Award!
My role: Game Designer, Level Designer, 2D Artist
Software Used:
Global Game Jam 2019
My team of 9 talented individuals created Memoriam in 48 hours. Out of the 30 teams that competed at the Savannah College of Art and Design that year, we were voted the "best game design"!
Combining 2D and 3D
Our team had people from many different aspects of game development, and among the art team there were both 2D and 3D artists. This led us to the unique idea to make a game with both elements.
How does it work?
In Memoriam, the player explores their childhood bedroom, which is a 3D environment. When they interact with objects from their childhood, they are transported to a memory of their past. However, it's seen through the rose-tinted lens of youth, taking on the appearance of a classic NES and SNES titles.
The Levels
For Game Jam, we only made 3 main levels (not counting the narrative level at the end). The first one draws from The Legend of Zelda, the second one resembles Yoshi's Island, and the last is similar to Spy Hunter. All of these levels switch to 2D and use a pixel art style.
